Course Overview

Integrative holistic medicine is based on the following principles:
• Health is more than the absence of disease.
• People are more than their symptoms, and healing requires a whole person approach.
• Empowered patients make long-term and lasting changes that support healing and optimal health.

Educational Objectives

After attending this activity, participants should be able to:
• Discuss the importance of treating the whole person, mind-body-spirit;
• Assess the value of a physician/patient partnership in improving health;
• Evaluate the role of evidence-based integrative holistic medicine in the treatment and prevention of common medical conditions and chronic illnesses;
• Incorporate integrative holistic medicine treatments into patient care, referring to specialists as necessary;
• Utilize tools and resources provided to incorporate integrative holistic medicine into their practices/organizations; and
• Establish a network of like-minded practitioners

 

 

 

 

Poster Submissions

The Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine is pleased to accept research abstracts of original work dealing with integrative holistic medicine from students, residents, and practitioners across disciplines. Abstract submission and details can be accessed at the following link: https://scripps.submittable.com

Research abstracts dealing with integrative medicine will be accepted in three categories:

I. Original Clinical Research
II. Basic Sciences / Review / Case Studies
III.Student/Fellow/Resident

Submitted abstracts of 400 words or less consisting of original observations in categories I or II will be peer-reviewed by the program research committee in pertinent areas including originality, study design, interpretation, and relevance to the conference theme. The deadline for submissions is September 30, 2014. Authors of selected posters will be notified within four weeks of submission.

Current research highlights an epidemic of stress and burnout in health care providers. In this workshop, Dr. Daniel Friedland will share with you a 4-step Framework that integrates brain science, cognitive behavioral therapy, positive psychology and mindfulness practice to empower you with skills and practices to effectively navigate stress and experience greater meaning and joy in caring for your patients, your loved ones and yourself.

Integrative Mental Health: Practical Tools for Changing Lives

The human brain is the most complex ecosystem in the known universe, which creates both enormous complexity and magnificent potential for practicing clinicians. We will cover a range of topics geared to support safe and effective care: Philosophy, Neuroplasticity, Effects of physiological imbalances on the mind and emotions, Methylation, Microbiota, Clinical Interview and Resonance, Lab Studies, Integrative Treatment Planning and Prioritization. An emphasis will be placed on sharing tools for common issues: mood, anxiety, thought disorder, attention and trauma. We will cover the power of suggestion, spirituality and the importance of meaning in the lives of our patients.

OVERVIEW

This two day on-site event will be held October 30th and 31st, 2014. It will begin with the Focused Track on Transformational Leadership on the final day of the AIHM Conference, and culminate in a second day of highly practical, tailored education. On the evening of October 30th, attendees will participate in an exclusive reception at Dr. Mimi Guarneri’s new integrative center, The Pacific Pearl. This center is a national model for a multidisciplinary approach to health care.

THE LEADERSHIP IN INTEGRATIVE HEALTH CERTIFICATION

After the completion of an additional 6 hours of online content and post-tests (included in your registration fee) for a total of approximately 20 contact hours, recipients will receive The Leadership in Integrative Health Certificate. This certification program is the first of its kind, and will establish participants as a new community of leaders in health care transformation. Registration will be limited to the first 150 participants.
